Disney Character

I think that I am most similar to the Disney character Tarzan. I really like the outdoors, I like climbing trees, I have my shirt off a lot, and I am not very good at English. Well maybe that last one was a joke but I think that I would be Tarzan if I could. Though, one difference is look at the right toe on Tarzan. It's gigantic! My big toe is definitely not that big.

Volleyball

So I work as an Event Staff for different sporting events for other big productions. One of my favorite sports to work are the volleyball games. On Saturday I worked inside and got to sit on the front row and lift a gate during timeouts and between games. The volleyball team is pretty much amazing. Two of my favorite players are Ivan Perez and Jonathan Charette. I think they both must have 40 inch verticals. My dad played in the early 80's for BYU. I wish I could have seen him back, they probably wore those short shorts, haha.

Easter!!!

I think that there is a similar food pattern for Easter as there is with many holidays. For easter I went to my grandparents house for dinner. For dinner we had ham, funeral potatoes, rolls, jello, a vegetable tray, and roast. When I came back to my apartment I asked a group of friends who had stayed in the dorms for easter what they had eaten. It was almost identical. Of course a popular food group that was consumed by probably everyone was candy. I had way too many sweets for my own good. Oh well, I guess it's ok to splurge every once in a while. What did you have for your easter dinner?

BYU Basketball

If you haven't already heard BYU made it to the NCAA tournament. They are a number eight seed against Texas A&M who is a number nine seed. The game is Thursday at 5:30. I am a big basketball fan and won't miss the game for anything. I think that the cougars have a good shot but they got a worse seeding than what I would have like. Texas A&M will be a tough fist round match up for them. I think a party is in order for this game. I was thinking about what kind of food is eaten at a party and thought back to the presentation my group did for English. We thought of foods that would go good with a superbowl party. Pizza, chips and dip, pop, popcorn, chex mix would all be good.

Taiwan Flag?

After I received my mission call I decided it would be cool if I ordered a Taiwan flag to put in my room. My roommate also purchased a flag of the United Kingdom because he is going to Leeds, England. I came home from school on Monday to find my roommates flag hanging on our window and a package sitting on my bed. I ripped open the package in excitement to find that they had sent me a Thailand flag. Well that's not going to work. I was disappointed but figure people make mistakes so I emailed the company to tell them of their mishap. They apologized and said they will look to see if they have any Taiwan flags in stock. So I am still waiting to get my flag while my roommates sweet United Kingdom hangs proudly in our window. By the way I heard that they eat monkey brains in Taiwan. Yum.

Mission Call!!!!

Well I got my mission call today. It was really hard waiting throughout the day to open it since I got it at 12:00 but didn't open it until 4:30. So if I didn't pay that well of attention in English class today forgive me. I received my call to... drum roll please, the Taiwan, Taipei, Mandarin speaking mission. I am so excited. I was literally shaking after I read my call. It feels like the perfect place for me and I really wanted to learn Mandarin. I have spent the day looking at pictures of Taiwan and figuring out what the climate will be like. I even ordered a Taiwanese flag so I can hang it in my room. I report the Provo MTC on June 25 and will be there for about three months. I will probably be eating a lot of rice, noodles, and fish. So in the language that I will be speaking for the next two years Zai Jian.

My Sister is a Spoon

I know the title of this blog seems kind of odd but I can explain. I called my sister the other day and we were talking about her upcoming musical Beauty and the Beast. She told me that she was going to be a spoon in the play. I told her congratulations on her role and hoped her the best in her upcoming production. After we talked for a little bit she said she wanted me to write a blog about her. So that is why I am writing this to say my sister is a spoon. In other news I turned in my mission papers last Sunday. I am so excited. I should get my call in about six days, so if you read this feel free to ask me Thursday at class.

Man Night

For all of you that actually celebrate valentines day I hope you had a great time with your sweet heart. As for me, one who does not really do anything on valentines day, I had a pretty good time too. My friends and I decided that we needed a Man's Night to counteract all the pretty hearts and cute couples. We went out and bought four hot and ready pizzas, four two liters of pop, two bags of chips, and three and a half pounds of candy. Pretty much the junkiest food we could find on the planet. After we had our heart attack in a meal we went back to the apartment next to mine for some manly activities. Now what do you do at a man night? Watch action movies and play video games of course. So we watched the fight scenes of matrix 1, the enter matrix revolution, played halo, and watched the entire matrix reloaded. It was pretty sweet, and after eating pizza, candy, pop, and chips I felt my man night was complete. So to all of you that went on your dates and dressed up all cute you really missed out on what I know you really wanted to do, Man Night.

Mission Fever

I am really excited to go on a mission. I should be finishing my papers pretty soon and can expect to get my call in a little over a month. I live in the freshman dorms at Heritage Halls where there seems to be a mission fever going around being that a bunch of pre-mi's live together in one building. On Friday night I must of spent a total of 2 hours with friends just looking at a world map and thinking of all the different places that I could go. It was a colossal waste of time, but I really enjoyed envisioning myself experiencing new cultures and foods in different places of the world. I drew a circle around the pacific islands and some of Asia as a possible destination point. My dad went to Japan and my brother went to South Korea so I figure I need to follow the trend and go someplace in Asia. They tell me stories of the exotic foods that they partook of, such as my brother eating dog, and I long to have my own experiences trying the cuisine of foreign countries.

Oh the Joys of Anatomy

Like I have stated before I am an Athletic Training major. For my major I was required to take anatomy which I was really excited to do because I have always had a great interest in the organ systems in the human body. One of the great things at BYU's anatomy class is that we get to actually look at cadavers. Some may seem this as kind of gross but I say HEY what's a better way to learn than looking at the actual structures. The only down sight of this is my new outlook on the foods I eat, especially meat. When the gluteus maximus on a human cadaver looks something like the roast I ate at my grandmothers a few weeks ago it sort of makes me think of what I am really eating. Now I am not saying that I dislike meat and I am definitely not even close to going to vegetarian, I'm just saying that when you take anatomy at BYU, you'll never look at a roast the same again.

Stangest thing I have eaten

The strangest thing that I have eaten was fish eggs. This might not seem that different except that I didn't eat it at a restaurant but straight from the fish itself in the wild. I was fishing with my dad, brother-in-law, and his dad in the High Uintas this summer. We had backpacked to this secluded lake and weren't having much success. Finally my dad caught a fish and took it back to camp where we proceeded to cook it. Once it was finished cooking my dad started to eat it. After a couple of bites he discovered that there were still eggs left in it. He invited me over and let me try some. At first I thought the idea was kind of disgusting but, after tasting them they turned out to be pretty good.

It's ok to be a kid

Even though I am in college now I believe it is still o.k. to revert back to our younger ways. What I mean is every time I go to the Creamery on ninth to order a meal I always get the kids meal. My roommate and I have been doing this all year and find it the best meal they have there. Yes I feel kind of awkward in my 6'2'', 175 lbs, 19 year old frame asking for the kids meal, but the amount of food that comes with the meal easily overshadows this humiliation. Never have I become more full from a kids meal. I figure that as long as I live and still go to the Creamery, I will continue being a kid.

My name is Adam. I am from Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, born and raised. I am nineteen years old and am a freshman at BYU. I am the son of Roger and Louise, and the brother of Mari, Austin and Emily. I am an Athletic Training major and want to be a physical therapist. I am really into sports and was on a state championship baseball team when I was in high school. I eat a lot of Top Ramen and peanut butter now that I am in college. I have always wanted to go to BYU since I was a little kid and am really enjoying my first year. I am currently living in Heritage Halls. Yesterday I was preparing my staple diet, Top Ramen, by tossing it in the microwave. I left it in there for three minutes and then went the next door apartment to hang out. After a couple of minutes my R.A. came in and asked, "who made Ramen," I said that I had and he beckoned me into the kitchen. Once I entered the kitchen I was hit with fumes of burnt Ramen. I looked in the microwave and saw my ramen noodles charred and smoldering. I had forget to put in the water. I quickly through the bowl into the sink where it cooled with a sizzling steam. Out apartment now smells a little funny and we are still trying to air out the kitchen. I learned my lesson that I should always add water to my ramen or I will stink up the entire hall.
